Surfing never alone: why you shouldn't surf alone

News Main Photo

Surfing is a whole culture! With its own rules, style, lifestyle, parties, community and mottos, like - Surfing never alone! We personally know many people who, having tried surfing for the first time, decided to radically change their life or at least adapt to it (they are like that themselves). And in this new non-trivial life he appeared - surfing!

Each of us has seen these cinematic footage of a sports guy on a board, easily cutting through waves taller than his height. After such a picture, I myself want to ride for another hour, emerge closer to the shore, throw back a strand of bleached hair with a slight wave of my head and catch the eye of a girl sunbathing on the sand in a bikini.

It's like that! Although surfing brings us pleasure, we should not forget that surfing is an extreme sport. When we look at how a professional easily takes a wave and playfully performs a spectacular performance on it, the illusion of ease and fun is created, but we should not forget that this surfer has devoted hundreds or thousands of hours to training on the water. And the same amount of physical training on land. So don’t be surprised if, after 15 minutes of your first surf workout, one thought after another comes into your head: “When will this all end?!” Don't worry! This thought will begin to subside in about 40 minutes! This is exactly how long it takes for the brain to begin to adapt to a new situation.

REMEMBER: surfing is an extreme sport, if only because the ocean is not a natural element for humans. And if a wave measuring 2 meters from the shore seems small to you, then keep in mind that at 2 meters the wave contains more than 5 tons of water, which at the most unexpected moment can easily fall on your head. And then there are currents, reefs, marine life, wind, priority rules, etc. Our school’s instructors will tell you about all this and more during group and private lessons to make your stay on the water safe and effective.

Good physical shape is, of course, a plus! But do not think that you are stronger than the element, whose name is Ocean. If you easily hold your breath for 1.5-2 minutes, then in a kneading under a wave with a pulse of 120 (and this is exactly what your pulse will be in the kneading), there is enough air for 10 seconds!!! Your safety on the water is always a priority. Even if there are lifeguards on the beach, you shouldn’t count on them 100%. The lifeguard is still on the shore, but watching the ocean from the shore and feeling its strength/power/currents inside are two different things.

Even a trained professional, coming to a new spot, will go surfing with one of the local surfers. Since it is the local surfer who will tell him about the specifics of the spot: what to be afraid of, where to enter/exit and when it is better not to surf. According to our personal observations, experienced surfers take safety much more seriously than beginners. Draw your own conclusions.

Now for the fun! The surf scene is very tight. Typically, surfers from Bali know surfers from Portugal or Brazil personally. Surfing was once considered the sport of kings, as only the elite could surf. Now everyone can skate, but there are not so many who have devoted ten thousand hours to this sport (you know this rule?). Therefore, surfing is also a community where almost everyone knows each other, and anywhere it’s more fun together! Because Surfing never alone!

See you on the waves!
