Surfing on Tenerife

News Photo

Surfing in Tenerife is one of the most developed areas of active tourism in the Canary Islands! The Canaries are often called the Hawaii of Europe: an archipelago of volcanic islands in the middle of the ocean - making this part of the world unique!

Since Tenerife is an island, there is surfing season all year round! After all, if there are no waves in the south of the island, then they are 100% in the north, and vice versa.

There are only two seasons in the Canaries: from October to March - winter, from April to September - summer. And if the air temperature in winter is only a couple of degrees different from summer, then the difference in the waves will be much more noticeable. In summer, the Canary Islands are visited mainly by southern swells with soft waves of around one meter - good for those who are just starting to learn surfing. In winter, the northern swell becomes a regular guest, which regularly brings waves of 2-4 meters in size - it is these waves that surf lovers from all over the world come here for!

Surfing lessons in Tenerife take place mainly in the southern part of the island - at spots in the city of Las Americas. There are several surf spots with waves of different levels. El Medio and La Fitenia surf spots with soft waves are good for learning and beginners. La Piscina spot - higher and faster wave. Here you need to be a confident surfer who respects local servers and honors surf etiquette.

How are surf lessons taught in Tenerife?

A surf lesson takes on average 2.5 hours. If you are a beginner and have never tried surfing in the ocean, we highly recommend that you start learning to surf with a professional, licensed instructor.

Our instructors will give you an introductory briefing, set up a stand, explain and show you the specifics of our surf spots - talk about currents and pitfalls. In a word, we do not only teach, we teach you to understand the ocean so that you can make friends with it!

After briefing and ocean theory, we will change you into a wetsuit and select a surfboard. Next, we will have a 1.5-hour session on the water. A group surfing lesson can have a maximum of 6 people.

After the session on the water, the instructors will tell you in detail and show you about your mistakes on the water and give you individual homework so that your next attack will be even better!

Let's conquer the waves together!
